The Affenpinscher is an alert, lively and humorous little dog. It is good natured, extroverted and good with children. This breed makes an excellent companion for an elderly or family person. It also makes a loyal guard dog, as it will defend its owners and property to the death.

The Affenpinscher is a small, vigorous, terrier-like dog with an alert expression, foxy face and the distinctive monkey face of the terriers. Its coat is shiny, smooth and close fitting. The clean-cut, masculine head is moderately wedge shaped with a straight or slightly convex skull and ears that are fairly large in proportion to the head. The nose is black but liver colouration can occur.

The eyes are darkly coloured. The body is short-coupled with well-sprung ribs and deep chest; the back is level with no absence of tuck up. The limbs are well defined with dense muscle and possess an abundance of bone which gives it a strong sturdy appearance. Feet are round with long toes covered in hair. Coat: Hair over eyes may be trimmed for better sight but never around ears or muzzle – these areas should have plenty of hair to protect from ticks and insect bites during summer months.

Affenpinschers are small, with almond-shaped eyes and pointed ears. They have stiff coats and can sometimes be nearly solid black, but the light coloration above their eyes is always present. They come in a variety of colors, including red-speckled black, silver-and-black , sable and white , and black-and-white . Affenpinschers are a small smart little dog that are very affectionate and loyal towards it’s owner. They love being near their owners and make excellent companions in many ways!

Affenpinschers are lively and energetic. They need a lot of exercise and might not get enough in an apartment setting. When they are young, they should be kept busy with training games and activities. They are naturally curious and fearless little dogs who need to be trained that some areas of the house are off limits, such as the kitchen or underfoot when you’re walking around in bare feet.
